NETWORK ENGINEER

Official employment opportunity is announced for the technical appointment of NETWORK ENGINEER on Engineering Specialist Grade / Equivalent at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC). This IT infrastructure post carries 1 Post allocated on Open Merit within the Management Information Systems (MIS) Directorate.

The primary operational duties of NETWORK ENGINEER encompass configuring, securing, and monitoring enterprise Cisco core switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless LAN controllers across hospital campuses, managing VLAN segmentation for medical devices and PACS networks, troubleshooting network latency, and maintaining VPN links between Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar data centers.

The selection pathway comprises evaluation of BS Computer Science / Telecommunications credentials, followed by a 100-mark written screening test covering TCP/IP networking, routing protocols, network security, and English comprehension, culminating in a technical interview.

• ✓Enterprise Network Infrastructure: Configure and maintain core, distribution, and access layer Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls across the hospital campus.
• ✓VLAN & Subnet Management: Implement secure VLAN segmentation separating clinical medical devices, PACS imaging streams, VoIP telephony, and guest Wi-Fi.
• ✓Network Security & Firewall Policies: Maintain firewall access control lists (ACLs), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and secure VPN tunnels between hospital centers.
• ✓Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor network bandwidth, interface errors, and latency using SNMP monitoring tools (PRTG/SolarWinds/Zabbix).
• ✓Wireless LAN Architecture: Manage enterprise wireless controllers and access points to ensure uninterrupted mobile clinical workstation and tablet roaming.
• ✓Disaster Recovery & Network Backups: Maintain automated daily configuration backups of all active network hardware and participate in DR drills.
